چکیده

Measurements of photosynthesis were made in continuous and flashing light of high intensity, using cells varying in chlorophyll content. The amount of chlorophyll present per molecule of carbon dioxide reduced per single flash of light was found to be about 2480 molecules. The length of time required for one unit in the photosynthetic mechanism to complete the cycle of photochemical and Blackman reactions was found to be about 0.02 sec. at 25 degrees C. The equation R = AIN was shown to give a good description of the rate of the photochemical reaction, when A is a velocity constant, I the intensity of light, and N the number of units in the photosynthetic mechanism.

Anoxygenic Photosynthesis —A Photochemical Reaction That Does Not Contribute to Oxygen Reproduction—

Plants, algae, and cyanobacteria perform photosynthesis with the resultant production of oxygen, which supports all organisms that consume it through their respiration. This type of photosynthesis is an indispensable part of the global oxygen flux. However, another type of photochemical reaction , photosynthesis without oxygen production, exists, and has been designated anoxygenic photosynthesi...

The Influence of Light and Carbon Dioxide on Photosynthesis

1. An optical system is described which furnishes an intensity of 282,000 meter candles at the bottom of a Warburg manometric vessel. With such a high intensity available it was possible to measure the rate of photosynthesis of single fronds of Cabomba caroliniana over a large range of intensities and CO(2) concentrations. 2. The data obtained are described with high precision by the equation K...

The relationships between carbon isotope discrimination and photosynthesis and rice yield under shading

The measurement of carbon isotope discrimination (∆) provides an integrated insight into theresponse of plants to environmental change. To investigate the potential use of ∆ for identifyingshade tolerance in rice, five rice varieties were selected and artificially shaded (53% lightreduction) during the grain-filling period in 2010 and 2011, in Sichuan, China. Shadingtreatment had a significant ...

Photochemical Degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol in Aqueous Solutions by Fe2+/ Peroxydisulfate/ UV Process

Phenol and its derivatives are one of the most common contaminants in the aquatic ecosystem. Because of high toxicity of 2,4-DCP for aquatic life, resistance to biodegradation and potential for biological accumulation it is known as a priority contaminant in the aquatic environment. Advanced Oxidation Processes were successfully used for degradation of non-biodegradable contaminants that are re...

Photochemical degradation of azure-b with sulphate radical ion generated by peroxydisulphate ion with cupric ion

In this paper, the photochemical degradation of azure-b by Cu2+/S2O82− process has beenpresented. Cu2+ as photocatalyst and S2O82− ion as photooxidant used in this process. Atextremely low concentrations, cupric ion showed true catalytic activity in the overall process. The influence of various parameters on the performance of the treatment process has beenconsidered, such as pH, concentration o...
